If you are or are going to be an affiliate marketer, then there are many things that you will need to keep in mind, and one of the biggest choices that you are going to need to make is choosing what products to promote. Here are some tips to help you do just that.

Study Up and Select Products Appropriate for Your Niche

You need to do a lot of studying up on your particular niche; Learn what your target audience is looking for and then select the most appropriate items to offer them. If you do not take the time to do this, you are going to do nothing but set yourself up for failure, and the niche and products you choose will be very critical to your success. We always recommend that you go Evergreen, and this simply means that you would be offering a product or service that will be bought from customers year round, or would you simply rather sell seasonal flu shots? IMO, cold medicine, flu shots, etc would not be considered evergreen as these would be seasonal products.

Think About Commissions

You really need to think about commissions when you are looking to select affiliate products to promote. You do not want to spend a lot of time promoting a product only to find out you are just making a small commission for each sale; Think about what you are looking to make and find products with commissions that are going to help you get where you want to be, and one method comes to mind is lead promotion, which means you get paid when the lead fills out and submits a form on your landing page, and in most cases, you would need to send high quality traffic to your lead generation pages, and lead generation is just one of many money making methods that you can consider; Do some research and playing, and work out a business plan, then decide which direction you would like to head; Careful planning is always a MUST!!!

Use Trustworthy Affiliate Companies

Using a trustworthy affiliate company is essential when you are an affiliate marketer. You are not going to want to spend your time promoting a product and not get paid a commission, So again, do some research and find out what the best affiliate companies you want to partner with for your business, and never aim to high, some affiliate programs may be out of your league, and if they are, then you may never get in their program because they are looking for more then what you can offer; Look for affiliate compaines that maybe closer on your level, such as, amazon, ebay, walmart, etc. You know what you can offer, now go find what you would like to promote and get it done.

Try it Yourself

If you are wondering if something would be a good affiliate product to promote then try it yourself; Nothing is better than a personal testimony about a product and if it is indeed a great product, it will assist you in getting excited to promote it, besides, why would you attempt to make a sell to others when you have never tried the product yourself? How can you sell a product or service if you can not attest to the fact that it would be a great product or service for you to have; Honestly, you should never promote anything unless you have tried the product, and you can give it a great recommendation, otherwise, your refund rate could be higher then normal if the product you are trying to peddle is not as good as the affiliate program is claiming, and I would like to go to bed knowing that I helped someone, not just make another sale.

Picking out which are the best affiliate products to promote can be difficult but with a little work, you are sure to find something to suit your unique needs.

I think the best way to find best products to promote is to always follow the market trend to find out what products are hot and at what time e.g During the holidays you can choose to promote the things you already know you are going to get yourself.

The first step would be knowing how to analyze market trends, so if you are in the weight loss niche, then you probably already know it is a trendy market to be in, however, you also have to take competition into consideration and it will take some time in order to get your site ranked because weight loss niche is very competitive, and not something to be taken likely as you do not want it to take forever to get your affiliate site ranked.

With so many people involved in the major niches, it would be best if you already have a bunch of keywords that are going to help with your ranking. You can employ the help of keyword research tools such as 'Long Tail Pro' to find winning keywords with low competitions.

Keeping up to date would be one way to know the most likely products to get into. The criteria for choosing the right niche to specialize on is pretty simple. Choose a niche that you are 100% sure will thrive all year. If you blindly follow what's trending, there will come a time where everyone will lose interest in what you are selling. Also, everyone in affiliate marketing is using trends as a guiding principle, so you can guess competition will be stiff. If you want to be an effective affiliate marketer, especially if you want to make it your prime source of income, then you have to adopt some new methods to ensure that you are making sales all year. One strategy is to dive into a niche that is timeless. By timeless, I mean, it is not seasonal. A good example would be health products. There is this company called Forever Living that specializes in selling health products. Currently, they have brought 160 countries worldwide, my country being one of them, into the fold and are making a net profit of about 3 billion dollars per year. They sell everything from tooth gels to acne products. The prices are steep but the products are excellent and 109% proven to work. There will never come a time in human history when we will not need health products and as such this company will NEVER fall.

This is a great article by the way @DGStaff, I agree with you on every point discussed within this especially on looking out for commissions on the products one decides to promote as an affiliate marketer. It would be an embarrassing thing to waste one's precious time on promoting a company's product which ends up paying one peanuts for all one's efforts in the name of commission. Also going with a trusted company is one good way to guarantee one's success as an affiliate marketer.

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make is to judge their potential success on what someone else did. The most important thing as an affiliate is to build a list of potential customers no matter what products you decide to promote. You want to make sure you feel comfortable recommending it in order to maintain a good reputation.

You are absolutely correct about how effective and efficient Forever Living Products are when it comes to doing exactly what the company said its meant for. I know this because my mother makes use of the FLP, although just like you pointed out, these drugs are very expensive.

The company offers good benefits to its marketers and distributors. If you mange to get reasonable numbers of downliners, you are definitely going to make good money from being a distributor for the company. I know a lot of people who have taken up the work and pushing it through online marketing, and anyone who knows about the FLP wouldn't hesitate buying it as long as the individual can afford it.

This would be called EverGreen niche, which means that the product will always appeal to someone, year round, and I would agree that the health niche is evergreen, however, health is also a very competitive market to be in, and may take a long time to make any significant process online, and 3 billion dollars sounds pretty good, so they must have a pretty good system for affiliates, upsells, downsells, and sounds pretty interesting.

I recently attended one of their seminars and judging from the presentation, it is a pretty solid company. They are unmatched in the health products niche and will continue to be the best for a long time. Their headquarters for East Africa are located in my country, and as a result, most African affiliates are Kenyan. What impressed me was that contrary to other shady network marketing companies that charge a fee to join like AIM Global and Social Biz Connect, their registration is completely free. You also get a mentor to guide you till you have learnt the ropes and become able to mentor another newbie.

Something you definitely need to try is to look for that hidden part of the market that is not yet explored because that might be where real potential lies. Avoid doing what other affiliate marketers are already doing because this is a long and stressful process.
Find that one product that has been waiting to be exposed to the world and you might just be the right person to make the introduction. So do not be afraid to sail into the deep waters because that might just be where the treasure is buried.

It's not advisable to try and promote so many products as an affiliate marketer. Look for the appropriate products that would serve you and your business niche well and focus on them. Also look at the commission because it's what you are working for and chose a trustworthy company to work with.

Also promoting products that have high commission percentage is a really great idea. If you want to make a living as an affiliate marketer you have to take risks and you do this by promoting products that are going to earn you at least 15% commission so that you will be able to cater for all the expenses you have. The one thing that affiliate should always keep in mind, is to never forget to take your time with the sales page and make sure it is legit.

Also looking up companies that values their affiliate marketer is one good thing to take into consideration because they are most likely to pay you the commission for the product promoted once it's sold. It's also good just like you said to look for products with high commissions to promote because they offer more profit to the affiliate marketer once it's sold.

As a new affiliate, you cannot afford to take major risks. Venturing into completely new and unknown markets is reserved for affiliates with experience, lots of cash to risk, and a really strong belief in whatever they are trying to market. Remember, as a new affiliate with no sales under your belt, you absolutely need a return on your investment. Having created a website and built it to perfection, you need to get those commissions as a compensation for your efforts, and your out-of-pocket expenses.

I agree with you on this, being new to affiliate marketing requires calm when taking up projects or products to promote. Excessive taking of risks wouldn't benefit the affiliate marketer because lack of experience will be a huge problem. So, it's better to take things easy and get better on the job before taking too much risks.

It is 2018 and we all know trends keep on changing so following the crowd might not be a good idea. You must be able to adapt to the constant market change and to do this you have to be ready to explore different opportunities that might surface.

Following the crowd might not be an entirely bad idea because it's one way of doing what matters at the moment. But what I would like to add about this is that, in as much as it's good to follow a trend, it's not a must to copy and do everything in the same manner. There should be some sort of improvising to give a unique job output.

Market trends do change all the time, and it really depends where the crowd is going. so if the crowd is going toward a cliff, then do you still want to follow them? One thing is for certain, anything "digital" appears to be trending because we are in the digital age, and it appears to be very popular.

This is very true, that a something is trending doesn't mean it must be taken with hook, line and sinker. Before following any trend, one must have at least sat down and evaluate the prospect of heading into such projects, assess its strengths and weaknesses, risks and benefits before having any conclusion with regards to joining such ventures. At times, it necessary to seek professional consulting services into something one wishes to go into. Just like cryptocurrency is trending currently, it's still not advisable to head into it without having all the knowledge on how to go about it, otherwise one would end up losing money or getting scammed.
