The U.S. Attorney in Massachusetts is prosecuting a single federal charge of kidnapping, death resulting against 32-year-old Louis Coleman III.
“This investigation remains active and fluid. At this stage, there are several details we simply do not know, other details that we are not yet prepared to make public,” said U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling on Sunday.
Coleman, of Providence, has been accused in the disappearance and death of 23-year-old Jassy Correia, of Boston. The charge carries a life sentence, if Coleman is convicted.
While Correia’s body was found in the trunk of Coleman’s car after a stop in Delaware, officials haven’t publicly disclosed or might not know where or how she died.
“The cause of death for this young lady is not as clear, so for purposes of right now, to get him, extradite him out of Delaware, this would be the best charge for the feds,” said NBC 10 News legal analyst Mark Dana, an attorney with Dana and Dana of East Providence.
A formal indictment against Coleman at a later date could also include new charges.
The federal case against Coleman is strong, said Dana.Sharing is caring! Link to this article:
